Since June 2026, Pavel Šimek has been serving as chaplain at Brumlovka. However, his path to this role was far from straightforward. After high school, he was prevented from pursuing a university education, and life quite literally led him underground. For more than twelve years, he worked as a miner in the coal mines of Ostrava, gaining invaluable experience of people and life from the very foundations, and at considerable depth. Later, he studied theology, completing part of his studies in England. Over the years, he served as a pastor, prison chaplain, and church leader. Together with his wife, he shared fifty years of married life. During the final years of her life, he accompanied her through a long and serious illness for nearly two and a half years. Through these experiences, Pavel has come to believe that people do not always need quick advice. More often, they need someone who will stay with them, truly listen, and never grow tired of their story.
