After ten years, Aleš Spáčil is once again presenting his artwork, focusing primarily on drawings. Over this period, the themes of his work have shifted, becoming more connected to reality and moving away from the abstract character that dominated his creations in the 1980s and 1990s, when he first exhibited in the German town of Baunatal. Today’s exhibition features mainly landscape and figurative motifs, with Aleš—an enthusiastic Hellenophile—letting his fascination with Greece shine through in many of his pieces. The exhibition showcases drawings created with pencil, ink, and marker. Drawing allows for a more flexible capture of reality, enabling the artist to express a wave of inspiration instantly, whereas painting requires careful preparation and time.
